Blue Gypsy Inc. 11 Years, 11 Months

My LinkedIn says I joined Blue Gypsy Inc. 11 years, 11 months ago. This December Blue Gypsy Inc will turn 12 years old! And just like any tween my business has gone through a variety of transformations over the past 12 years as I’ve found my passion and Blue Gypsy Inc.’s purpose.

I remember when I passed a major milestone of having been in the building industry longer than the number of years I traveled. I spent 13 years traveling around the world, and 16 and counting in the building industry. I came ashore off sailboats in March of 2006 and shelved my 200-ton captains license and Master Scuba Diver Trainer certification teaching 10 specialties in multiple countries around the world. Little did I know that I was about to embark on a journey that was longer than any I had ever begun before.

Where has the time gone?

Growing Blue Gypsy Inc. has been a wonderful ride so far as it constantly transforms and continues to grow. Kinda like a 12-year-old should.  When I first started out, I was working as a sub-contracted online sales counselor to a new home builder after spending 3 years in-house with another builder. The role back in 2010 was still so new and so many builders were not adding this role to their team at the time.

Wow have things changed! The recent mystery shop I did with Melinda Brody & Company and Denim Marketing revealed that 60% of builders have Online Sales Counselors.

During the early years, as an independent contractor I also work on certain aspects of marketing and the emerging new concept of social media marketing. (Man, that was in the Stone Age!)  I worked for builders and consultants, and even some great companies doing their social media marketing, writing blogs, and even worked with a graphic designer to do small websites and logos for clients – not all in the building industry.

But then in 2014 I took on my first online sales counselor training client. It was so nice to be trusted as I dipped my toe into the world of training OSCs for builders and developers. I realized I had a knack for this. Slowly all the other services I offered began to fall away as I become focused inside this very small niche in the building industry. Now, 7 years later, almost about to celebrate 12 years of Blue Gypsy Inc., I’ve been a trainer for longer than I sailed as a sailboat captain. And I’ve been training for the same amount of time I actively worked as a dive instructor traveling around the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands, South Africa, and Zanzibar to do my thing. (Anyone know if they need OSCs in those parts of the world!?)

Each journey has its hardships and rewards. Whether putting your face under water for the first time and breathing on a regulator, learning how to navigate a new city in a foreign land, sailing across the Gulf Stream to paradise lost, or even the ever-changing landscape of the online sales counselor world. One thing I can say is certain. I love what I do now and can’t wait to see what the next 12 years bring!
