AI Can Be an OSC’s BFF… But It Still Needs a Chaperone
AI is everywhere right now. And in the OSC world, it can be a great tool – or a nightmare.
AI can be like that super-organized friend who always has a to-do list, a backup plan, and a fully stocked snack drawer. It can help you stay on top of lead response, follow-up, and appointment setting without breaking a sweat. It’s fast. It’s tireless. It doesn’t panic when you come back to 42 new leads on a Monday morning. But use it wrong, and it turns into a misinformation machine, confidently delivering wrong information or even worse, making you sound like you’ve turned into a soulless robot.
Let’s get one thing straight: I’m not anti-AI. I am anti-sounding-like-a-corporate-bot-that’s-lost-touch-with-reality.
But here’s the deal: just because AI can help doesn’t mean it should be doing all the talking. AI is not you. And if you let it do all the talking, things can get a little too over-polished, over-scripted and sounds like a sales seminar threw up in your CRM. That’s just not the kind of messaging that gets buyers to trust you.
Here’s how to use AI the right way—without losing your voice or your credibility.
Think of AI Like Your Intern
AI is here to help you start the conversation—not finish it.
You’re not outsourcing your job to ChatGPT. You’re using it to brainstorm fast, cut down on writer’s block, and make your workflow a little smoother.
Ask it for help like this:
“Give me a quick, casual follow-up message to send 6 hours after I had this phone conversation with them. No jargon, just helpful and friendly. Include a soft call to action.” Then help your AI buddy out by copying and pasting the transcript from your calling software in…please have calling software – and asking it to extract key areas of information and help you write the follow up.
Then, and this is key, edit it to sound like you. AI can spit out decent drafts, but it doesn’t know your tone, your community, or your brand unless you train it. And PLEASE make sure it’s not too long. AI has a tendency to ramble!
AI looooves to write long intros and formal closing lines. But your job is to get to the point and open the door for conversation.
Too long:
“Thank you for your interest in the wonderful homes at Oak Ridge. I’d love the opportunity to assist you in your homebuying journey and…(And on and on we go for a whole paragraph or three).”
And back in the day when people had a longer attention span, my emails did look like this!
Nope. Try this:
“Hi Ashley! It was wonderful talking with you earlier! Did you have a chance to check out the floor plans we discussed? There were a couple that really fit your <insert wants needs and desires here> Let’s set up a time for you to visit the community and speak with one of our community experts.”
Short. Friendly. Actionable. That’s how OSCs win.
Even more bonus points if you send a follow up video referencing the call!
Train It—Or It Will Make Stuff Up
AI is only as smart as the info you give it. So, if you’re letting it write messages without feeding it accurate data about your communities, pricing, timelines, or process… buckle up. Because it will start guessing. And AI guesses with confidence. Some say AI hallucinates… but really, it’s just a nice way of saying: it lies.

Ultimately you need to keep being human – AI can’t read a lead’s tone. It doesn’t pick up on urgency. It doesn’t know when someone’s ghosting or just needs a nudge. You do.
That’s the magic you bring to the table. So yes—use AI to make messaging faster. Use it to test new approaches. But you should always be in the driver’s seat. Because in this business, authenticity sells.
AI Is a Tool—You’re the Talent – If you’re an OSC using AI to help you follow up faster, more power to you. Just don’t let it take over the voice that actually makes buyers feel seen and heard.
- Use AI to draft, then edit it to sound like you
- Give it correct info or risk a misinformation nightmare
- Keep messages short, real, and focused on the buyer
- Never let AI talk to your leads unsupervised
- Don’t feed it after midnight, or let it get wet either
- Your humanity is the secret sauce—don’t lose it
Don’t shy away from helpful tools, but at the end of the day you need your own personality to shine through.
