A Few Personal Ah-has and Insight From The Epcon National Conference
It’s 7am in Columbus Ohio on day 3 of the Epcon National Conference, and I have my 2nd presentation of the week in a couple of hours. I should be reviewing material, and then I think… but this is stuff I talk about all the time for the past 15 years. The details change as the market changes and technology changes, the concepts and ideas grow, but at the root of it is what I’ve been doing for 15 years in the building industry.
So why do I get nervous?
I’m not by nature a public speaker. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love to talk… my family will tell you that wasn’t a problem from a young age. My husband will tell you talking isn’t my problem.
And the topic of Online Sales energizes me!
I know when I engage one-on-one, in small groups or facilitate discussions, I can see the ah-ha moments in people’s faces, and I know I’m hitting the mark. I love it when I can impart useful information to people that they will take away and it will help make their jobs and their lives better.
And that’s what I got to see yesterday! I got to speak to a room of about 60 or so people from around the country that wanted to learn more about the relationship between online and onsite sales. It was so gratifying to see some of those ah-has and hear about them at the end.
I realize that speaking in front of crowds isn’t about how polished you are (As long as you don’t put them to sleep.) but from the standpoint of being a helping spirit. Yes, I don’t want to fall on my face. But it’s important to remember that it’s not about me. It’s about what I can do to help others. That realization really helped settle my nerves, pump up my energy, and allow me to present some great content on both the sales track and the marketing track.
Because after all, the online sales program is the crossroads of marketing and sales.
